Entering Nepal
The onlyinternational airport in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal is linked with Delhi,Kolkata, Varanasi, Banglore, Dhaka, Paro, Karachi, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore,Kualalumbpur, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Seoul, Osaka, Guanzhou, Shanghai &Lhasa. Surface entries are allowed only from Bhairahawa (Sunauli), Birgunj(Raxaul) & Kararbhitta (Siliguri) from India and Kodari (Zhangmu) overTibet.
Passport & Visa
A valid passport,with a validity of 6 months from the date of entry, is required for alltourists except Indian nationals. Single entry tourist visa can be obtainedfrom all open entry points of Nepal, except for Chinese and few othernationals, or from the Royal Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad. Tourist maystay in Nepal up to 150 days in a visa year.
Gratis Visa
SAARC Nationalsare free of visa fee for 30 days. Currently applicable visa fees (subject to change without any notice)are as follows:-
Multiple Entry:
For15 days validity US$ 25.00
For30 days validity US$ 40.00
For90 days validity US$ 100.00.
For extension:
Upto15 days or less US$ 30.00
Andtherafter US$ 2.00 per day.
Transitvisa, for one day US$ 5.00 upon producing confirmed onward ticket.
Notes:
- Visacan be obtained at the airport or any designated entry points uponarrival. A prescribed applicationneeds to be filled and submit together with a passport photo. It may also be obtained from theNepalese Embassies / Diplomatic missions abroad in advance. However, the visa fee inthe diplomatic missions may differ from what the fees suggested above.

- Visafor upto 30 days stay is obtained for citizens of SAARC member nations. (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives,Pakistan, Sri Lanka). IndianNationals do require a visa to enter Nepal.
- A Visacan be extended to a maximum of 150 days in a visa year (January – December)
Customs & Export
Passengersarriving at the airport without any dutiable goods can proceed through theGreen channel for quick clearance without a baggage check. If the passengersare carrying dutiable articles they must pass through the Red channel withCustoms clearance. Beside personal belongings, the passengers are allowed tobring into Nepal free are; 1 pair of Binoculars, one still camera (with 15rolls of film), one movie or video camera, a laptop computer, a portable musicsystem, 200 cigarettes or 20 cigars, 1 bottle of liquor and a reasonable amountof perfume.
It is illegal toexport objects over 100 years old (sacred images, paintings, manuscripts) thatare valued for their cultural and religious significance. As such, tourists areadvised not to purchase any item of antique value as they are Nepal’s culturalheritage. The Department of Archaeology at Ramshahpath, Kathmandu has tocertify all metal statues, sacred paintings & similar objects beforecarried out of the country.
AirportTax
The internationalairport taxes are included in the airfare so there is no need to pay at theairport. Domestic airport tax for all nationals is Rs. 175 per departure.
